“NOT only children should read Tildy's Sausage Sensation. It's a children's book but it's guaranteed to tug at the heartstrings of anyone.
It's an 11yr old's story of her dog, a corgi named Tildy, who is a hospital visitor and who enters a best-dressed-dog competition in a frock adorned with sausages.
Just before her tenth birthday the author, Peta Kerr, was diagnosed with brain cancer. It later spread to her spine and she became a paraplegic, a devastating blow for lively little girl who was never still and enjoyed doing handstands and competing in cross-country runs. By the time she was twelve she was dead.
A foreword says: "This book is published as a tribute to it's late author, Peta Kerr, by her mother, Kate Kane, who has expanded and developed Peta's original story."
The hard-cover book is beautifully presented. Illustrations by Kay Smith, real doggie facts and heart-rending pictures are worth the book's price, the sales of which go to the Children's Cancer Institute and the Children's Brain Cancer Centre.
I defy anyone to read this book without feeling what a loss to this world this child was.”
